Great historical sampler book. full of pictures and written material.

I never knew much about the history of samplers as it pertained to education in the early nineteenth century. I found this book to be a fascinating read especially as it pertains to the education of young girls.

Historian Gloria Seaman Allen has researched and written another of her scholarly studies about girlhood needlework encompassing early female education, genealogy, material culture, and local history. In an engaging manner, this volume covers the joining of the Georgetown and Alexandria ports, on the Potomac River, with the new federal enclave, Washington City, to form the District of Columbia in 1790.
